stations, firehouses, and in many cases public water and sewer.
Even the fiber-optics network that allows you to access the
Internet is, in part, public infrastructure.
Smart
Growth directs State investment in these facilities to existing
communities and areas designated by local governments for
future growth. Adequate and well-maintained infrastructure
in these areas is a cornerstone of Smart Growth-without it,
growth will be inadvertently directed further from established
communities.
